When you interact with UQ, we may collect personal information about you. For example, if you send us an enquiry, register for an event or subscribe to marketing emails.
This page outlines what information we collect about you, how we use that information, how you can access it, and how you can opt out of direct marketing communications.
Personal information we collect and why we collect it

Where this applies, the question will not be marked as required on the form. |

If you don't provide this personal information
If you don't provide the personal information listed above, we may not be able to:
- register you to attend an event
- provide access to an event including meeting your requirements or preferences in terms of access and catering
- provide you with marketing communications, including information about future events, appeals and other engagement opportunities
- respond to your enquiry or request
- otherwise provide you with any assistance that you may be requesting.
Disclosing your personal information
UQ will disclose your personal information to third parties where needed when handling your enquiry or registration, managing an event or sending out marketing communications.
In certain circumstances, this may involve disclosing your personal information to a third party outside of Australia. This may include:
- the use of third-party event management services, email platforms and online marketing solutions
- the publication of recordings on UQ's YouTube channel (hosted on servers located outside Australia) and other online storage platforms (such as Teams and Zoom).
We will not otherwise disclose your personal information to a third party without your agreement, except in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and other relevant privacy laws.
Our legal obligations
UQ may also collect and disclose personal information to meet its legal obligations under the following:
- Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (Cth)
- Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth)
- Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth)
- Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (Cth) (ESOS)
- National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 (under the ESOS Act)
Accessing or updating your personal information
To access or update the information that UQ holds about you, you can:
- contact the relevant organisational unit, event organiser or our Future Students Contact Centre
- submit a formal request to our Right to Information Office. For more information, refer to the Access to and Amendment of UQ Documents Procedure.
Opting out of direct marketing communications
UQ will only send you marketing communications, such as emails or SMS, if you have provided your consent.
You can opt out at any time by either:
- clicking the unsubscribe link in our emails, or
- contacting our Future Students Contact Centre.
