Patrick Nolan's rewarding performance career has seen him playing flute in chamber, symphony, opera and ballet orchestras. Nolan was Principal Flute in firstly the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently The Queensland Orchestra (QSO). He has played baroque, classical and contemporary concerti in flagship concert series and has participated in numerous recordings for ABC Classics, ABC Classic FM, Naxos, Tall Poppies and 4MBS Radio. Patrick derives much satisfaction in his work as a chamber musician and was a founding member of The Lunaire Collective and the Aether Ensemble. He was artist director of the 1999 Australian Flute Convention.
Since moving from orchestral life, Nolan has embarked on a career in the education of young musicians at tertiary and pre-tertiary levels and is currently the flute specialist at The University of Queensland School of Music. He also tutors at summer and winter music schools and for the wind sections in Queensland Youth Orchestra ensembles. With Michael Cox and Joanna Sullivan, Patrick has been collating Michael’s insights into the artistry and methods of flute playing.
Dr Robert Manley is a freelance multi-instrumentalist. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland and subsequently studied the cello with Howard Penny at the Australian National Academy of Music. Rob also works as a piano accompanist for the University of Queensland and Queensland Ballet. In his spare time, he has performed recorder concertos as soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Mandolin Orchestra.
Rob recently completed his PhD at the University of Queensland (Feb 2021). His project investigated audience engagement strategies for classical chamber music in a regional Australian community.
As a cellist, Rob has performed with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and Camerata. His tour to Central Queensland with the Orpheus Club String Quartet was shortlisted for an APRA AMCOS Art Music Award in 2018. Rob’s festival appearances have included the Huntington Estate Music Festival, Peninsula Summer Music Festival and Next Wave Festival.
Lucy Reeves has been playing the harp for over 30 years and enjoys a fascinating and varied life performing in concert halls around Australia for Symphony, Opera and Ballet and Orchestras. She enjoys teaching harpists of all levels; working with chamber groups giving house concerts; also playing at her local hospital to create a calming atmosphere for patients and staff.
As guest principal orchestral harpist, Lucy works most regularly with the Tasmanian and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. She has toured several times with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and has performed nationally with Opera Australia, AOBO, MSO, WASO and ASO, internationally with NZSO, as well as for visiting international companies including the Hamburg Philharmonic.
Lucy was born in the UK and trained as a Foundation Scholar at the Royal College of Music, London before emigrating to Australia in 2000 where she completed her Masters in Music Studies at QCGU.
Lucy also teaches the Alexander Technique and has been running a private practice in Brisbane since 2008.
