A University of Queensland researcher has received $149,000 through the Australian Research Council Discovery Indigenous scheme to improve health outcomes for Indigenous women and babies.
Pharmacist and Yuwi man, Dr Jared Miles intends to address gaps in knowledge on how nicotine is metabolised by Indigenous women during pregnancy, as current data doesn’t represent Indigenous communities.
Through collaboration with Indigenous health services and local communities, the results will be integrated into practice to support more accurate medical advice and improved treatments to quit smoking.
