The University of Queensland Gatton students and staff were photographed all around the globe this summer, sending in pictures from India, New Zealand, England, America, Indonesia, Thailand and more as part of the ‘Where are you this Summer?’ photo competition.

Students and staff were asked to send in pictures of themselves and a statement about their holiday adventures for a chance to win an iPad Mini.

Jess Roberts won the competition with an entry about her industry placement on a dairy farm in New Zealand.

“I've returned back to New Zealand to complete two weeks of beef pre-clinical prac work,” Ms Roberts wrote.

“While everyone back in aussie has been experiencing flooding and bushfires, we have had perfect weather – blue skies, nice and warm too!!

“We have been helping out with weighing heifers, castrating and dehorning calves, helping the vet with egg and larval counts and doing a lot of sheep work too.

“What's better than working with animals on holidays?

“Having your own private coastline where you can go snorkel and dive for crayfish, that's what!

“Definitely the cherry on top,” Ms Roberts wrote.

Campus Director Janelle Zahmel said the competition was an excellent way to keep in touch with students and staff over the break.

“We really enjoyed seeing all the entries and were amazed by what people were getting up to,” Ms Zahmel said.

“It’s the first year we have run the competition and we were really happy with the effort all of the staff and students went to.”

“Next year we’re looking forward to building on the idea and having another great competition that everyone can get involved in,” she said.

The runner-up was David Innes, who completed his industry placement in North Queensland.

Third place went to Rae Carter who travelled to Bali.

They each won a $50 Coles Myer gift voucher.
