The University of Queensland Rugby Football Club has covered itself in glory once again following an immense performance in this year’s Grand Final, with a 46-20 victory over Sunnybank.

In a high-scoring affair, it was a combination of strength from the likes of Tim Buchanan, Matt Arvier, Curtis Browning and James Hanson in the forwards and the speed and guile of Luke Morahan and Mike Harris in the backs, which saw the Heavies gain a 24-3 lead midway through the first-half.

“We’re thrilled with the result,” General Manager David Enfantie said.

“It's a credit to the boys for working hard all through the year, as well as our coaches and volunteers,” he said.

Club Captain Tim Buchanan was awarded the Tony Shaw medal for his man of the match performance in the Grand Final, where his hard work helped nullify Sunnybank’s pack.

“I was very surprised to receive it,” Mr Buchanan said.

“All the boys played so well and it could have gone to a number of them, but it’s a great honour to get this award and I am very proud," he said.

“It capped off an amazing day.”
