Ireland will take on Namibia in the quarterfinals of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at The University of Queensland today at 9.30am (Monday 20 August).

This follows Ireland’s victory over Nepal by 14 runs in the tournament last Wednesday (15 August).

The Irish posted a score of 185-8 from their 50 overs in Townsville thanks to the contributions of Shane
Getkate (47), Andy McBrine (41) and Tyrone Kane (39 not out).

Namibia will have a tough challenge on its hands after losing to Sri Lanka by 195 runs at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field on Monday, August 13.

UQ Property & Facilities Division Senior Grounds Supervisor Shane Biddle said the University was honoured to co-host the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

“It is great recognition for the grounds staff that a first class event like this, approached us to co-host the event,” Mr Biddle said.

“The team has spent a lot of time preparing the facilities for the event as well as keeping the other grounds prepared for all of the other sport that is played here at UQ.

“It has been an outstanding effort from those involved.”

The event started on August 7 with two days of practice fixtures at venues around Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Townsville.

Australia, South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan are all on top of their respective pools with 6 points each.
Australia coach Stuart Law is happy with his side's easy progression from Group A at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup but knows they can still improve.

The host nation finished the group stages with a six-wicket win over Ireland on August 14, giving them three wins from as many matches at the tournament.

The event finishes with the final in Townsville on August 26.

The ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup is an international cricket tournament contested by national Under-19 teams.

The event was initially staged as a one-off event in Australia in 1988, and has been held every two years since 1998.
