Walk around The University of Queensland Gatton at the moment and you will see a number of shaved heads due to the huge amount of support for the Leukaemia Foundation’s Shave for a Cure.

In total UQ Gatton staff and students have raised $18,000. The major groups involved have been Veterinary Science students and staff and the Halls of Residence staff.

First year Halls of Residence student Katie Roberts was keen to get involved.

“I know people who have had cancer and I really wanted to do something to support them. I thought you only live once and it’s just hair,” Ms Roberts said.

The residential students hosted an event where 14 of their students took part.

“It was so exciting watching everyone have their hair chopped off before it was your turn to be in the hot seat. A lot of people came along to give encouragement.”

“It is definitely worth losing your locks for such a great cause that helps so many people!” she said.
