With local players Samantha Stosur and Bernard Tomic enjoying success on tennis’s world stage, the UQ Tennis Centre is gearing up for a huge start to 2012.

The centre’s Sign-on Day is happening on Saturday, January 14 from 11am–3pm and is expected to attract everyone from the experienced player to those who have never picked up a racquet before.

UQ Tennis Centre Manager Alex Reeman-Clark said Sign-on Day was all about giving people the chance to experience the enjoyment and benefits of tennis.

“There will be a huge range of fun and free activities for people of all ages and skill levels, so it won’t matter whether you’re a first-time player or an aspiring pro,” Mr Reeman-Clark said.

“Everyone will get the chance to meet the coaches, have a hit on court or trial a free coaching or Cardio Tennis class.

“We will also be running a BBQ and fun activities for the kids, including tennis games and face painting.

”Anyone who signs up for any coaching or fixtures on the day will receive 10% off their enrolment fees, and, anyone that registers their interest in Sign-on Day on our website will go in the draw to win a Prince tennis gear prize pack valued at over $300.”

The UQ Tennis Centre’s facilities are some of the best in Queensland with the courts recently seeing play from many of the state’s top juniors.

“On 6-9 January the centre held the Prince UQ Age Tennis Championships, a tournament which featured more than 250 players,” Mr Reeman-Clark said.

“It was great to have the future stars of tomorrow battling it out at UQ while former University Open finalist Bernard Tomic was over on Pat Rafter Arena competing in the Brisbane International.

“It is a great time for tennis in Australia at the moment, so we are very excited about getting everyone out on court."
