Six UQ students were named official Brisbane International Student Ambassadors at a special event last month.
Master of Educational Leadership student Quoc Duy Tran, is one of two UQ Ambassadors from Vietnam.
“As an ambassador, I will be able to create strong connections with the Vietnamese mass media to help Vietnamese youth learn more about Brisbane,” Mr Tran said.
The Brisbane Marketing Study Brisbane initiative selected the students who were officially announced on March 5 by former Lord Mayor Campbell Newman.
“Student Ambassadors play an important role in boosting Brisbane’s international reputation as a vibrant and multicultural world-class city,” Cr Newman said.
Mr Tran said the role would offer him the chance to speak to current and prospective students about university life, providing insight in to what they can expect from studying in Brisbane.
The ambassadors make a great contribution in advancing Brisbane as a city with world-class educational opportunities, Cr Newman said.
Now in its fourth year, Brisbane City Council recognises the event as the city’s official welcome event for new international students.
“The Ambassador program appealed to me because it’s another way for me to help improve student life in Brisbane,” Mr Tran said.
The Ambassador program helps Brisbane create strong long term global connections, and acknowledges international students as global advocates for the city, Brisbane Marketing’s CEO John Aitken said.
