16 April 2010

The University of Queensland is staging a huge Centenary celebration at its St Lucia campus this Sunday, April 18.

A vast program of events begins at 9am and concludes with a dusk spectacle at 5.45pm (until 6.30pm), where a dramatic light show will be projected on the front of the iconic Forgan Smith building, accompanied by the deep blue orchestra.

The party will be based in the Great Court, but events will be held all over campus.

Events include a full-day literary festival with a stellar line-up of UQ alumni authors, a full day of musical performances including orchestral, choral and big band music, followed by pop and rock in a bill topped by a reunion performance of legendary 80s band The Riptides.

There also will be history, architectural and ghost tours, five museums open, health and wellbeing seminars, science and laser shows and craft markets.

All of the community are invited to this free event.

All media welcome.
