A struggle for equality and freedom from oppression is coming to The University of Queensland.

Unlikely though it sounds, witnesses will be looking forward to it.

The struggle will be limited to the stage at the Schonell Theatre, where Ignatians Musical Society will bring to life Les Miserables.

A cast of 40 performers from around South East Queensland will take to the stage from September 18 to October 16.

The production will be Edgar Chan’s debut as musical director, while Simone de Haas takes on duties as director.

Ignatians president Bryn Griffiths said Les Miserables and its story of love, forgiveness and the struggle for freedom was timeless and hear-wrenching.

“By the end of the show I guarantee you there will not be a dry eye in the house,” he said.

“It really is a moving piece of theatre and the music will take you on an emotional journey.”

Tickets are $35 for students and $45 for adults, with family packages also available.
