The School of Economics will officially welcome its postgraduate students tomorrow night with an industry networking function.

The function will be held in the UQ Staff and Graduates Club and will include the presentation of the inaugural STANWELL Elizabeth Nosworthy Power Industry Bursary.

School of Economics Head Professor John Foster said that this was the first time that industry contacts had been invited to the annual postgraduate event.

“Postgraduate qualifications in Economics are in high demand in both the private and public sector,” he said.

“By inviting industry partners to meet our students we hope to facilitate opportunities for our graduates, employers and academic staff."

The General Manager, Trading, of STANWELL Corporation, Mr John Bamfylde, will present the two merit-based STANWELL Corporation Elizabeth Nosworthy Power Industry Bursaries that are each worth $7500.

Other companies with representatives in attendance will include Suncorp, BUSS(Q), Brisbane City Council, the Environmental Protection Agency, Goldman Sachs JB Were, BDO Kendalls, Frontier Economics, QLD Treasury, ABN AMRO Morgans, KPMG, the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, AEC Group, and SGS Economics and Planning.

Also in attendance will be The University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Greenfield, AO, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Michael Keniger, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) Professor Deborah Terry and Faculty of Business, Economics and Law Executive Dean, Professor Ian Zimmer.
