Graduates of The University of Queensland’s Master of Technology and Innovation Management (MTIM) will gather to launch the MTIM Alumni Network on Wednesday 29 March.

The launch will be held at UQ Business School’s Downtown site from 6pm and will feature guest speaker Dr Ian Blackburne.

Blackburne – a UQ Business School graduate – is Chairman of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation and CSR Ltd, and former Managing Director of Caltex Australia.

Host of the event Professor Mark Dodgson said the Master of Technology and Innovation Management degree had evolved from the Master of Technology Management first offered by UQ’s Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences, and Architecture.

“Innovation is now seen as a critical management function rather than a purely technical activity so it makes sense to locate the program in the Business School,” Professor Dodgson said.

"MTIM Alumni are encouraged to join us in our research activities, which involve close partnerships with world-leading institutions such as Imperial College London.

“The inspiration behind the launch of the MTIM Network came from one of the program’s graduates, Suzy Baxter.”

Ms Baxter said she was keen to get an MTIM group going.

“When I approached the UQ Business School, they liked the idea and were happy to work with me to get it up and running,” Ms Baxter said.

“When I was doing the MTIM, I met some fantastic people but have lost touch with some of them since graduating.

“I hope the MTIM Network will become a point of contact for people now working in exciting and diverse roles around the world.”
