National Triathlete Nikki Egyed and Queensland 800m champion Stuart Bowden took out the Open Women's and Men's titles at The University of Queensland's 17th annual Great Court Race today.
The 636-metre one-lap dash around UQ's Great Court is based on the Cambridge University Race, featured in the film Chariots of Fire.
Egyed, who led from start to finish in 1.44.80, made it back-to-back victories after an impressive win in the 2000 race.
The Human Movement Studies student is the current Australian University Cross Country Champion and was fastest qualifier for today's race.
She has also been selected in the national triathlon team and recently won her first international event in Noumea.
Second placed in the women's event was Julie Adams in 1.48.80, while Amanda Berghofer was third in 1.49.91.
The Open Women's record is held by Sandra Dawson who covered the distance in 1.41.68 in 1993.
Queensland 800m champion Stuart Bowden fought off strong challenges to take out the Open Men's title.
Winning in 1.29.73, Bowden was closely followed by Garth Silva in 1.30.88 and Peter Humphreys in 1.31.71.
Bowden, third placed in the 2000 race, will compete in the 800m and 1500m at the Australian University Games in October.
The men's race record is 1.26.40 set in 1988 by four-time winner Simon Still.
