UQ staff ready to help students at TSXPO2000

University of Queensland staff will attend TSXPO in Brisbane this month to help prospective students make important life decisions and find their way through the tertiary information maze.

They can advise students about the University's extensive range of high quality programs and course offerings (including new programs for 2001) and on entry requirements and applying for programs. TSXPO will be held at the John Reid Pavilion, RNA Showgrounds on Saturday July 15 and Sunday July 16 from 10am to 4pm.

"TSXPO is a good opportunity for people to sample the range and depth of University of Queensland programs, and to ask questions about everything from accommodation, admissions, program content and quotas, to campus facilities," University Academic Registrar Neville Lamb said.

"The University offers the State's widest range of high-quality programs, with more than 5000 courses available through 400 undergraduate and postgraduate programs."

Mr Lamb said The University of Queensland offered the most diverse choice of programs in Queensland, ranging from world class programs in Architecture, Business, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, Health, Humanities and Law to Primary Industries, Science, Social Sciences and Technology.

Mr Lamb said the University was experiencing strong demand for its range of dual degree programs, one of the most comprehensive of any Australian university.

"Dual degrees are increasingly popular because they give people two areas of specialisation and consequently better employment prospects," he said. "They take one year longer than the longest component of either degree. For example, it normally takes four years to do a law degree and three years to do an arts degree full-time, but a dual Arts/Laws degree takes five years."

Mr Lamb said TSXPO also provided a chance for students who were unsure of their QTAC program preferences to get advice about their applications.
