More than 3000 people are expected to attend the University of Queensland Gatton College's Open Day on Sunday, August 29 from 9am to 3pm.

College director Professor Craig Pearson said staff were expecting an influx of visitors seeking information about the range of courses at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the campus.

"Staff and students involved in teaching and research specialisations at Gatton College will be happy to answer questions and guide visitors around departments," Professor Pearson said.

Professor Pearson, who is also Executive Dean of the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science Faculty, said some exciting study fields would be offered in 2000. These included natural resources and environment, agriculture and horticulture, veterinary and animal sciences, and food science and technology.

Visitors will be able to sample food including free ice-cream produced by food science and technology students during a dairy production plant tour.

Lunch will be available from student stalls serving delicacies including multi-cultural and Australian foods, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

At 12 noon, Professor Pearson will officially open a recently refurbished student accommodation building, and address open day visitors. Students will conduct tours of the halls of residence which provide comfortable single room accommodation for approximately 350 students.

Free parking is available in the College's attractive 1068 hectare grounds. The University's Gatton campus is one hour's drive from Brisbane and 30 minutes from Toowoomba on the Warrego Highway.
