Easy transport access to UQ Courses and Careers Day
There are plenty of transport options for visitors to the University of Queensland's Courses and Careers Day at the St Lucia campus on August 1.
The University will hold its 1999 Courses and Careers Day from 9am to 4pm, with a display in Mayne Hall, St Lucia, Brisbane, and careers talks in nearby buildings.
Dean of Students Dr Lisa Gaffney said the day was a good chance for people to talk face to face with University staff about courses, career paths, facilities and entry requirements. A series of talks throughout the day would provide valuable information about degree programs.
The University will offer free parking at its multi-level carparks off Sir Fred Schonell Drive, St Lucia.
Dr Gaffney urged visitors to travel in comfort this year and catch a bus, train or ferry. Brisbane City Council operates a number of buses from the City and western suburbs to UQ including routes 402, 403, 407 411, 412, 414, 427, 432 and 378.
To mark Courses and Careers Day, the route 412 bus will depart Adelaide Street, City every 15 minutes between 10am and 2pm, stopping at Toowong on the way to catch commuters arriving from Toowong Railway Station.
The University Ferry runs between Dutton Park Cemetery and the north side of the campus, below the Union complex, every 10 minutes from 9am to 4.55pm at weekends. High speed CityCat ferry services operate between Hamilton and St Lucia campus and Guyatt Park, St Lucia. The ferries run half hourly from 5.50am to 10.30pm daily but are often heavily used. For bus and ferry timetables, contact the Brisbane City Council's TransInfo line telephone 13 1230.
Visitors to Courses and Careers Day will also be able to take free bus tours of the campus. These will leave from the UniSafe bus stop outside the Social Sciences and Humanities Library (near Mayne Hall) every 15 minutes from 9.30am until 4pm and will take about 30 minutes. Visitors can alight from the bus on request and then hail a later bus along the route. The buses will stop at each of the residential colleges on campus.
The University will hold a separate evening on Monday August 2 from 4pm to 7pm at Mayne Hall for people considering postgraduate studies. Open days will also be held at UQ Ipswich on Sunday, August 15 and at Gatton College on Sunday, August 29.
