The University of Queensland's Courses and Careers Day on Sunday, August 3, gives future students an opportunity to discuss study choices face-to-face with academics and staff.

Chair of the Courses and Career Day Committee Dr Lisa Gaffney says while the event particularly benefits high school students and their parents, it is relevant for anyone considering furthering their study options, including postgraduate work

'It is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students to talk directly with people from faculties, departments and schools about their studies, and also to hear what is going on regarding jobs and careers in various areas,' Dr Gaffney said.

About 9000 people are expected to attend the event, to be held from 9am to 5pm at the St Lucia campus.

Activities aim to give prospective students, careers guidance officers, teachers and parents opportunities to gather first-hand information about courses, career paths, facilities and entry requirements.

University academics and staff from faculty offices and other services will be available to discuss areas of special interest, while formal information sessions throughout the day will provide essential background on studying in fields from art history to zoology. Programs and campus maps will be available from Mayne Hall.

Displays in Mayne Hall will cover the full range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at both the Gatton and St Lucia campuses, and provide a wide range of free and informative University publications.

The University is the only institution in the State providing degrees in specialised disciplines such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and minerals process engineering.

It offers more than 4300 undergraduate subjects, and more than 200 programs ranging from associate diplomas to PhD and higher doctorates. It is also one of Australia's leading postgraduate providers, with more than 5000 of the 25,000 students undertaking postgraduate studies.
