Event Description

Full Description:
Western Images and attitudes of the recent rise of The People's Republic of China.

This event is brought to you by the UQ Confucius Institute as part of a free public lecture series and warmly invites guest speaker Professor Colin Mackerras AO, Griffith University to deliver the lecture.

Abstract
Although covering Western images of the P R China generally, the lecture will focus on the 21st Century, especially on China's rise at that time. There will be some consideration of how the West views China's economic growth, but also its strategic and military rise, and the increase of its global influence. The lecture will introduce some theories, both positive and negative, of China's rise. In addition, it will offer a small range of Western images of China's future. Finally, it will attempt to offer some explanation of Western images of contemporary China and, specifically, of China's rise.
Guest speaker: Emeritus Professor Colin Mackerras AO, Griffith University, Inaugural Director of the Confucius Institute at Griffith University
