Event Description

Full Description:
Participatory GIS or Public Participation GIS (PGIS or PPGIS) are methods that capture human values, preferences, experiences, and other social variables in a spatially explicit format for land use and environmental planning. In this seminar, Greg will share findings from multiple PGIS studies with a focus on the strengths and limitations of participatory GIS methods for integration with biophysical data to achieve meaningful (rather than hypothetical) conservation outcomes.

Bio-sketch

Greg is an A/Prof in the School of GPEM and founder of the Landscape Values & PPGIS Institute. He has completed more than 20 participatory GIS studies in Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, and North/South America with new research projects starting in Europe (Poland, Norway, Finland) in 2013. He will do research wherever he can find good beer.
