Event Description

Full Description:
This event is brought to you by the UQ Confucius Institute as part of their free public lecture series on Chinese Culture to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Australia-China diplomatic relations.

A lot has been written recently about the so-called peaceful rise of China. Beginning with a brief summary of the economic development of China over the past decade, the speaker will present his views, based on many years of experience working in China-related areas, on the direction and pace of its development in the next decade, and its potential significant implications on Western academia, commence and government.

Dr Reg Little, was an Australian diplomat from 1963 to 1988. He received high level language training for service in both Japan and China and was Deputy Head of Mission in Laos, Bangladesh, Ireland and China. Dr Little has co-authored two books, The Confucian Renaissance (1989) and The Tyranny of Fortune: Australia's Asian Destiny (1997) and was sole author of A Confucian-Daoist Millennium? (2007).
