Business, Economics, Law and Tourism alumni are cordially invited to attend a Cocktail Reception in Melbourne hosted by the Executive Dean, Professor Iain Watson.

We hope that you will be able to join us at this informal function to hear our guest speaker, Dr Vince FitzGerald, Director, The Allen Consulting Group Pty Ltd and to connect and network with your fellow UQ Alumni. All UQ Alumni and their guests are welcome to attend this complimentary event.

ABOUT THE LECTURE: “The Rise of Economics in Public Policy: UQ Graduates in the Advance Guard”.

Dr Vince FitzGerald is a Director (formerly Chairman) of The Allen Consulting Group Pty Ltd, a leading Australian consulting company in the fields of economics, regulation, public policy and corporate public affairs. He has been a Director of the firm since 1989, soon after its foundation.

Prior to that, he was a senior government official in Canberra, with assignments in the Departments of the Treasury, Prime Minister and Cabinet, Finance (Deputy Secretary), Trade (Secretary) and Employment, Education and Training (Secretary).

From 1994 to 2004, he was a Director of ING Australia Holdings Ltd and subsidiaries. Since 2005 he has been a Director of ETF Securities Limited, a company which issues a wide range of securities, predominantly giving exposure to commodities, listed on the ASX, LSE, most European exchanges and the NYSE.

He is a member of the Council of the Australian National University and has been a Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria until mid-May 2012. He is President of the Victorian Division of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a trustee of the Finkel and Tuckwell charitable Foundations, and is a Director of the Goulburn-Murray indigenous community’s Kaiela Institute.

He is an alumnus of The University of Queensland and was awarded a Bachelor of Economics with 1st class Honours in Econometrics and a University Medal. While at The University of Queensland, he was also a recipient of the prestigious Archibald Scholarship. Dr FitzGerald also obtained a PhD in Economics from Harvard University.
