Event Description

Full Description:
Ensuring a net zero future and protecting Australia’s biodiversity
More than 50 per cent of the world’s gross domestic product is moderately or highly dependent on nature and its ecosystems. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF),
“[…] biodiversity protection is not ‘just about nature’. It is integral to future economic growth, standards of living and community wellbeing.”
Indeed, it is recognised that biodiversity loss eliminates a substantial source of carbon capture and storage – for example in the form of vegetation – reflecting how biodiversity protection is inextricably linked with net zero targets for the mitigation of climate change.
Nature Positive and Net Zero targets are now in our common language and organisations, businesses and industry are being held to account by their investors, stakeholders, governments, customers and communities on their performance. It is no longer sufficient to say we have a net zero target and plans for protecting biodiversity--we are being called upon to demonstrate how we are going to achieve it.
This webinar considers the importance of long-term data capture and an industry example of the steps are being taken to build transparency into assessment of performance for agricultural land uses.
