Event Description

Full Description:
Join us for Meet the Researchers: The Future of Pain Relief to hear about the latest advancements in pain treatment research.

The event will feature presentations from dynamic IMB researchers and include a complimentary afternoon tea and lab tour.

Dr Hana Starobova will share how cancer treatments negatively affect the quality of life of children and how she is developing effective strategies to prevent their long-term side effects including debilitating long term pain.
Dr Sam Robinson will share what we can gain from pain. Most stings and bites cause pain—but not all are equal. The sting from a bee feels different to that of a scorpion. Sam will tell us how understanding the chemistry behind stings can teach us how pain works and may ultimately lead to new ways of treating pain.
Dr Fernanda Cardoso will show how spider venoms are rich in components with powerful pain killing properties capable of treating chronic pain. These painkillers show promise as a new safer type of drug that could provide an alternative to opioids.
