Event Description

Full Description:
Presenter: Prof Roger Wepf

Every exploration starts with an unknown; in the future, metals will be 'harvested' from minerals and waste in a circular economy. UQ traditionally has analytical capabilities for mining and minerals, exploration, and metallurgy, and we will present these capabilities from the different units as a “Segway” to discuss future demand. Knowing that metal 'harvesting' has a massive impact on the carbon footprint and ecology of any involved industry, UQ has started an internal joint venture to establish in the year 2023 a new Mineral and Metals Central Characterisation and Innovation Unit at the Long Pocket site. We will wrap up by presenting the current plan and discuss with participants their future needs and gaps in this essential analytical space for a metal circular economy.
