IDEA Bio, short for Integrated Design Environment for Advanced Biomanufacturing, is a new NCRIS-funded facility to enable cutting-edge research in synthetic Biology. IDEA Bio is a high-throughput facility that enables us to design, and test hundreds of strains per week. IDEA Bio will partner with academics to address fundamental biological questions, and with industry to design superior industrial microbes and proteins. Through the new facility, IDEA Bio at UQ is hoping to understand and unlock nature’s potential for Biomanufacturing.
Co-located with Queensland Metabolomics And Proteomics (Q MAP) both facilities offer a unique integrated environment to drive the next biological revolution in manufacturing. IDEA Bio and Q MAP will accelerate the design of industrial strains to biomanufacturing everyday products. Examples of projects include carbon capturing technology using bacteria capable of utilizing greenhouse gases as their sole carbon source and converting it into biofuels. IDEA Bio and Q-MAP are partnering with industry, the Queensland Government, and other biofoundries to create a unique hub for innovation, translation, and deploy biological technology in Queensland.
