Event Description

Full Description:
In today’s world, technology is part of every minute of our personal lives, essential in areas such as medicine and emerging as an essential component of modern biodiversity conservation. In conservation, technology is becoming the ‘eyes and ears’ of monitoring programs, enabling more effective and consistent data collection from remote and extreme environments, instant alerts about imminent threats, enhanced management decision-making, and targeted monitoring for global and local agreements.

Conservation technologies include camera traps; acoustic sensors; tracking tags; satellite remote sensing; lidar; and drones. Increasingly, other devices and techniques are being trialled, such as computer facial recognition; biologger tags; eDNA; machine learning and artificial intelligence; networked sensors; and radar.

Our speakers focus on cameras, radar, eDNA and acoustics to help us understand current adoption in Australia and key knowledge gaps in these technologies for conservation.
