Event Description
- Full Description:
- The value of livestock to smallholders in Timor-Leste
Tarni Cooper and Dominic Smith
Livestock are kept by around ninety percent of households in Timor-Leste yet consumption of animal-source foods is low and formal exports non-existent. Our research is exploring why smallholders keep livestock and the potential implications for future investment in research for development. Sharing stories from the field and selected, preliminary results, this presentation will highlight the importance of livestock to the ceremonial economy in Timor-Leste and the wider, human implications of this.
This presentation is part of a seminar series within SAFS covering Rural Development, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. The seminars include a range of interesting topics relating to ongoing or completed research and will be held fortnightly at Tuesday lunchtimes.
NOTE: This seminar is held at St Lucia , but will also be available via videolink in Room 8117-103, Gatton Campus.
