Title: 'Influence of Psychological Stress on Fear Extinction during Development'
Abstract: Approximately 1 in 4 Australians suffer from an anxiety disorder at least once in their lifetime. This disorder emerges while the brain is still developing, with around 84.9% of sufferers diagnosed before they are 18 years of age. My research delves into the regulation of fear memories during our development, by probing how stressful environments in either early life or adolescence could alter their regulation. Additionally, I am examining whether physical exercise could be used as a potential intervention. My current (and future) work has led me to research whether the activity of transposable elements in our genome could be associated with an altered regulation of fear memories induced by psychological stress.
