Title: Role of EphA4 in regulating adult hippocampal neurogenesis and motor neuron disease
Abstract: The ephrin receptor, EphA4, is member of a large family of receptor tyrosine kinases, shown to play a role in the development and function of the nervous system. I will present new evidence about the novel role EphA4 plays in regulating neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus and the mechanism underlying its regulation. Recently, EphA4 has been also identified as a disease regulator in motor neuron disease (MND), which is characterised by the progressive degeneration of motor neurons. I have identified novel isoforms of EphA4 and will discuss their expression and putative function in the pathogenesis of MND.
