Event Description
- Full Description:
- On November 22, 2014, head out to Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island to join in with Moreton Bay Research Station’s annual Open Day.
The Moreton Bay Research Station (MBRS) Open Day provides an insight into the rich diversity that surrounds North Stradbroke Island, highlighting both traditional and scientific knowledge.
The day will start with an official “Welcome to Country” ceremony by Aunty Margaret Iselin from the Minjerribah and Moorgumpin Aboriginal Elders in Council.
There are a wide variety of activities for visitors to participate in including touch tanks, presentations, live marine animal displays and workshops.
Hands-on workshops include the sharing of traditional knowledge via the Goompie Trail, Cool Companions live animal show, MBRS “Mad Science” demonstrations, and Reverse Garbage art workshops where participants make artworks from scrap material that would otherwise end up in landfill or in our waterways.
Scientific research conducted at the Station is highlighted via a lecture series presented by researchers currently conducting work at MBRS.
