St Lucia to UQ Bike Link via The Esplanade

The Brisbane City Council (BCC) has made available the first draft of new (Q3, 2009) plans for the Stage 2 section of the St Lucia to UQ Bike Link via The Esplanade (section of road from St Lucia Golf links to The University).
Below is a snapshot of these preliminary plans:
There are two options:-
  1. One is the sole surviving option "B" from last year’s three option proposal, which is a 3m wide shared path segregated from the two way vehicular traffic along The Esplanade.

  1. The other is a new option which has evolved from last year’s community consult, which introduces a one way section of the road on the Esplanade from Tarcoola St to the dip near Kings College, and provides a 3m wide shared path segregated from the parking and vehicular traffic flow lanes.

Lockers:

The UQBUG team is working with UQ Traffic & Parking to accommodate cyclists using the secure lockup rooms with lockers.

A small budget allocation may be available for the provisioning of lockers in 2009, but as The University budget is thin across all departments in this year we have been advised that a substantial provisioning cannot start until 2010. We require support from cyclists to ensure this happens.

You can contribute ...to making sure the Locker Budget is not re-allocated elsewhere, by emailing the UQBUG (uqbug@uq.edu.au) with a breif note in support of lockers for UQ Cyclists.

We are always taking suggestions from the UQ Bicycle User Group (UQBUG) community for the following wish list categories:

  • Ideal configuration of end of trip facilities including: Secure Bicycle Storage Room (SBSR), showers, locker's etc.
  • Ideal locations for end of trip facilities
  • Ideal locker style for SBSR
  • Ideal outdoor bike lockup station configurations and locations
  • Ideal bicycle routes on campus

If you would like to comment or add suggestions for any of these categories, please send your contribution to uqbug@uq.edu.au
