Why study the Bachelors of Business Management/Education (Secondary)?
The Bachelor of Business Management/Bachelor of Education(Secondary) program is designed to meet the needs of students wishing to complete a pre-service teacher education program, whilst providing the opportunity to explore other career options that are normally available to students completing a Business Management degree.
When this program is studied at a standard load of four courses per semester, the final semester will comprise part-time study of only two courses. Students may decide to overload in previous semesters or undertake study in a summer semester to reduce the total duration of the program.

Placement courses
Compulsory Placement Course
Students must complete 10 days school experience and 90 days supervised practicum. Every effort is made to place students within a reasonable distance of their home base but they can be expected to travel up to 90 minutes due to public transport connections and incur costs associated with travel and possible lost income over this period. Students are generally placed at Ipswich, Brisbane, and southeast Queensland and are encouraged to explore the option of a rural placement. Financial assistance may be available to assist with travel and accommodation costs for rural placements.
Students are required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing practicum. Students can apply for a Blue Card through the School of Education and should do so three months before their practicum is due to commence. The Teacher Preparation Programs Handbook provides information about practicum and school experience requirements and is available from School of Education.

Additional application requirements
As part of the Australian Institute for Teaching and Leadership (AITSL) revised Standards and Procedures (2015), applicants to initial teacher education courses (pre-service teachers) must satisfy both academic and non-academic entry criteria for selection to the course. The process for assessing an applicant's non-academic capabilities is currently under development.
From 2017, commencing students are required to successfully meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) standards prior to graduation. Current students (enrolled prior to 2017) are also strongly encouraged to meet the LANTITE test prior to graduation as you may be asked for evidence of this when seeking employment. The University has committed to pay for students to undertake the test for the period 2016 to 2018 inclusive. - Students are expected to fund travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan area.
- From 2018, all students are required to successfully meet the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) standards prior to graduation.
- UQ committed to fund test costs to the end of 2018. From 1 January 2019 this is no longer available and students must cover this cost. The 2018 fee was $185 ($92.50 per test). ACER lists current fees.

Program rules for the Bachelors of Business Management/Education (Secondary)
To complete the Bachelors of Business Management/Education (Secondary)
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelors of Business Management/Education (Secondary), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain 64 units comprising -
- 32 units from the BBusMan list including -
- (i) 18 units of compulsory courses from Part A; and
- (ii) 12 units for the Business Economics major in Part B (at least 6 units must be from level 3 courses); and
- 32 units from the BEd(Sec) list including -
- (i) 16 units from Part D; and
- (ii) 16 units from Part E.
The Professional (final) Year of the BEd(Sec) program must be taken full-time and can only be commenced when the BBusMan and BEd(Sec) Part D requirements have been met.
