  • Supervision at the student's place of work by an approved supervisor

  • Registered cardiac sonographer
  • Cardiologist
  • Intensivist with credentialing in echocardiography

Why study the Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Echocardiography?

This program is designed to provide training in the theoretical and practical aspects of echocardiography. On completion students will be able to perform and interpret a comprehensive echocardiogram recognising commonly encountered pathology of the myocardium, valves, pericardium and great vessels. In addition students will develop an enhanced understanding of the echocardiographic evaluation of the critically ill. Topics covered include:

  • assessment of volume status and fluid responsiveness
  • haemodynamic monitoring
  • evaluation of patients with hypotension, hypoxaemia, sepsis and trauma.

To complete the Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Echocardiography

To complete the Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Echocardiography, a student must complete a requisite number of courses chosen from the course list and according to the Rules for the program.

Students should be aware of the University of Queensland rules, particularly the General Award Rules, which govern the conduct of UQ programs. Students will find a link to the General Award Rules, and other University rules, on the University Rules page.
