Why study the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies?

This program provides advanced professionally oriented studies for practising educators, focusing on the professional development needs and in-service requirements of teachers and administrators. Some pathways offer specific qualifications while others offer significant professional advantage to educators interested in career advancement or broadening career options.

NOTE that students wishing to undertake a second field with the Guidance and Counselling field must discuss their plans with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or the School of Education.

Please note that the Graduate Diploma of Educational Studies will not qualify you for teacher registration in Queensland. Teacher Registration can only be achieved by completing the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or the Master of Teaching (Primary) , which are certified teacher preparation (pre-service) programs. The Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies prepares students for a variety of employment opportunities including learning support teachers, guidance counsellors, secondary mathematics teachers, middle years teachers, science teachers and educational administrators. Program Rules and Requirements

To complete the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies

To complete the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies, a student must complete a requisite number of courses chosen from the course list and according to the Rules for the program.

Students should be aware of the University of Queensland rules, particularly the General Award Rules, which govern the conduct of UQ programs. Students will find a link to the General Award Rules, and other University rules, on the University Rules page.

A student is required to obtain 16 units including at least 12 units from the MEdSt Course List and up to 4 units of approved non-education postgraduate courses.
