Postgraduate engineering students were provided with the opportunity to present their work to potential employers and research partners at UQ's Engineering Postgraduate Conference recently.
The conference provided an excellent opportunity for industry organisations to view the latest presentations from Research Higher Degree (RHD) students studying within the Schools of Mechanical and Mining Engineering; Civil Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Information Technology and Electrical.
Conference Chairperson, Vinita Nahar and Doctoral candidate in the School of ITEE said the Conference was a great opportunity for RHD students to fine tune their presentation skills and network with industry representatives.
“It also provided a chance for attendees to interact and gain an overview of research across the different engineering schools,” Ms Nahar said.
“The conference was a real accomplishment and showcased everything we were working to achieve at the 2012 event.
“We have received lots of positive feedback from our delegates and I feel we have made significant steps towards the advancement of the conference as this was the first time we had received industry sponsorship.”
UQ Alumnus and GroundProbe’s Chief Commercial Officer, David Noon addressed the conference on the opportunities afforded through higher degrees.
Starting out as a research project at UQ’s Department of ITEE in collaboration with the Cooperative Research Centre for Sensor Signal Processing (CSSIP), GroundProbe has since been accepted as global best practice amongst multinational mining companies.
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology, Professor Graham Schaffer said the conference was a perfect opportunity for students to gain an overview of research conducted by their peers.
“It is not often RHD students have the opportunity to present their research to academia, industry and their peers,” Professor Schaffer said.
“The Engineering Postgraduate Research Conference is a fantastic platform for students to network with industry and share their own research projects.”
