Over the past two weeks we've had some new additions to the Lab. Gwendolyn David and Skye Cameron have finally kicked off their PhD research. While much mystery surrounds the central theme of their projects, they are both off to a flying start. After a thorough inspection of populations of Ornate rainbowfish on Fraser Island, Gwen is almost certain that she does not want to spend her three years maintaining fish! Instead, she's on the search for a model system to ask questions about the effects of dispersal ability on population genetic structure, and thinks that Lady beetles may have the answers. Skye is off to the USA to spend some time with one of our labs primary collaborators, Mike Angiletta. Skye has thoughts of working on thermal plasticity in gekkos to examine how phenotypic plasticity facilitates adaptation.
