Keynote presentation
Professor Marie Wilson, University of South Australia
Prof Marie Wilson

Be there to welcome keynote speaker Professor Marie Wilson as she addresses the topic 'Preparing students (and ourselves) for the work/place of their future'.

As work becomes more disaggregated, and displaced by both design and digital transformation, students will require new skills and approaches to successfully navigate careers. They will need to manage new challenges that were exposed in talent acquisition and development during the pandemic, and new graduates will face these challenges and more as organisations continue to adapt and change in the years ahead. Only some parts of our teaching and learning systems actively develop skills suitable for even 5-to-10-year planning horizons; others may accidentally extinguish emerging abilities that will be increasingly important. Students will need new skills and strategies to manage new challenges that were exposed in talent acquisition and development during the pandemic, and new graduates will face these challenges and more as organisations continue to adapt and change in the years ahead.

Professor Wilson will draw on changes to work and the workplace to propose clusters of skills in the areas of:
- self-management
- engaging community and collaboration
- delivering complex projects.

She will then highlight the kinds of teaching and learning processes that support these, and question some common techniques that might not work as we expect.

Professor Marie Wilson has a lengthy career of impactful leadership roles in universities, as well as private and public sector organisations globally. Most recently, Professor Wilson was the foundation Chief Academic Services Officer for the University of South Australia (2020–2022), appointed after many successful years as the PVC for Business and Law at UniSA. She has been a long-term peer reviewer for the Business Higher Education Roundtable awards (now Engagement Australia Awards) and an advocate for University-Industry engagement. She also leads the Future Work/Place project at UniSA’s Centre for Workplace Excellence, investigating how the design of both work and the workplace impacts individuals and teams, as well as organisational effectiveness.

Panel discussion
