Event Description

Full Description:
Dr Geoffry Fordyce will present a QAAFI Science Seminar titled 'Test tubes to farming practice'.

Abstract:
Unfortunately, we just can’t do research and think farmers will take up what we recommend. Building on many years in Research Development & Extension (RD&E) in the Australian and South-East Asian beef industries, I have had a leading role in helping to create systems that find pathways to business practice for what spills from our test tubes. Understanding this can help scientists more appropriately position their research outcomes and support practice change.

Dr Geoffry Fordyce profile:
Geoffry is a senior research fellow within the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation at the University of Queensland. His research experience over 40 years follows an apprenticeship in the family beef cattle business and private veterinary practice. Geoffry has worked in multi-agency RD&E teams primarily in northern Australia and Southeast Asia where he has studied all aspects of tropical beef breeding herd systems including female and male reproduction, nutrition, health, genetics, behaviour and business.
