Event Description
- Full Description:
- UQ Wellbeing in partnership with UQLife will hold a special event to celebrate Diwali, the Indian Festival of Light on November 13th from 3-7pm at Campbell Place at the St. Lucia campus.
What is Diwali?
The Indian Festival of lights has many terms including Deepavali, Dipavali, Dewali, Deepawali. In Sanskrit, the word Deepavali translates to ‘a row of lights’, and this is a term more commonly used by South Indians to refer to the festival. In contrast, the North Indians use the modified ‘Diwali’. Although the legends that go with the festival are different in different parts of India. However, Hindus, Jains, Newar Buddhists and Sikhs all celebrate the spiritual victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.
We invite all students and staff to come along to enjoy the Diwali experience with free traditional Indian food, music and activities. We invite you to wear your traditional dress to this event.
