Event Description
- Full Description:
- We are pleased to announce that AIBN are co-hosting a joint seminar with the Queensland branch of RACI polymer division as part of the AIBN Virtual Seminar Series.
Please take this opportunity and join us virtually to hear from Prof Mitsuo Sawamoto talk about Precision Polymer Synthesis and Sustainable Polymer Science Present to the Future on Wednesday 15 July 2020 from 11am (BNE time) via Zoom. Seminar is free, but registration is essential.
Overviewing the present and focusing the future:
1. The progress in precision radical polymerizations and catalysis therein
2. Precision synthesis of functional polymers with designed architectures
3. Hot topics (subjectively selected) – Nanospace design in self-folding and/or micro-gel star polymers and sequence control for novel functions and 3D shape
4. Sustainable polymer science for sustainable human society – What can we do for the current challenges such as microplastics problem, and circular economy?
Professor Sawamoto holds B.S. (1974), M.S. (1976), and Ph.D. (1979) degrees in polymer chemistry from Kyoto University. After his studies he became a visiting scientist at the University of Akron, USA. (1980–81). Upon his return to Japan, he became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Polymer Chemistry, Kyoto University (1981) and is a full Professor since 1994. Professor Sawamoto retired from this position in 2017, and his current roles are:
• Professor, Chubu University, Frontier Research Institute
• Professor Emeritus and Special Appointed Professor, Kyoto University
• Program Director, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)
• Executive Director, The Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ)
Professor Sawamoto is a world-renowned scientist, recognized with multiple scientific awards: Macro Group UK Medal, RSC (2012); Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon (2015); Alexander von Humboldt Research Award (2016); Benjamin Franklin Medal in Chemistry (2018); among others. Professor Sawamoto published to this date an excess of 540 original papers, 50 reviews, with the total citation count of more than 23,000 and an h-Index of 69. Professor Sawamoto also presented 23 plenary lectures and more than190 invited lectures so far.
