Event Description

Full Description:
‘SUM OF US’ COMMUNITY CONVERSATION AND MOVIE SCREENING
WHEN: 1.00pm to 4.30pm, Sunday 23 June 2019
WHERE: Metro Arts, 109 Edward St, Brisbane 4000

At an Amnesty International event for National Refugee Week at Metro Arts in Brisbane on June 23rd 2019, youth entrepreneur, Duku Fore, will share his story of coming to Australia from a Ugandan refugee camp at age ten with his family and overcoming challenges to become today an internationally renowned inspirational speaker studying Law/Business at Queensland University of Technology who has been an Australian Delegate to the UN Youth Assembly in New York.

To coincide with National Refugee Week (June 16-22), Amnesty’s Queensland Refugee Network is partnering with the Brisbane community, migrant and refugee groups, peak bodies and community organisations to celebrate the lives and experiences of refugees at this free event as part of Amnesty International’s ‘Sum of Us’ conversation series.

Duku Fore will be joined by motivational speaker Erfan Daliri, Australian-Iranian author, poet, social change consultant and activist who is a Refugee Campaign Adviser to Amnesty International. The community conversation will be followed by a screening of ‘The Merger’, an Australian comedy/drama film that explores the decline of a cash-strapped Aussie Rules rural footy club and the recruitment of refugees to keep the club viable.
