Full Description:: Please join your fellow UQ alumni in Ho Chi Minh City for an engaging talk on the “Mighty Microbiome.” Dr Mark Turner will offer a brief history of the microbiome and why it’s taken up a prominent role in our social consciousness.

Feeding your microbiome
It seems everywhere you turn today, you can’t help hearing about the 'microbiome'. Most people know this has something to do with bugs (microbes) that live inside us and play an important role in our health. Why all the interest now and does diet affect our microbiome?

UQ's Associate Professor Mark Turner will offer a brief overview of the gut microbiome and how the food we eat shapes it, which ultimately affects our health.

Dr Mark Turner is a tenured Associate Professor in Food Microbiology in the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at UQ. His research focus is in lactic acid bacteria genetics, stress signaling, cheese cultures, antifungal and antipathogen (Salmonella and Listeria) biocontrol applications.

He is the Discipline Head of Food Science & Technology at UQ and teaches food microbiology, food safety and food biotechnology courses and coordinates the Master of Food Science and Technology coursework programs.
