Event Description

Full Description:
It seems that every week there is a new media article focusing on childhood overweight and obesity. Should the school holidays be made shorter? Should we implement a sugar tax? A key performance indicator in the ‘My Health, Queensland’s future, Advancing Health 2026’ strategic policy is to reduce childhood overweight and obesity prevalence by 10%. Despite the building interest and investment in the area, exactly how to address the issue remains a challenge. No nation in the world has been able to successfully reduce their childhood overweight and obesity prevalence – could Australia be the first?
In this presentation I will provide an overview of the current progress of the collaborative research agenda that is being driven by a strong partnership with Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQ HHS). The overall aim is to develop and implement a systems-based, integrated approach to address childhood overweight and obesity across the healthcare system.

This seminar will be presented by Dr Jacki Walker (Lecturer and researcher at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences)
