Event Description

Full Description:
Composers and performers of the UQ School of Music present an intimate concert of uninterrupted music that will guide you from one end of the exhibition to the other, exploring its themes and the space itself. Over 20 musicians representing strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, voice, piano, and organ will perform a program of original works by John Rotar and Richard Sanderson.

Composer bios:
John Rotar (b.1995) is currently studying a Bachelor of Music, majoring in composition, under Dr. Robert Davidson at The University of Queensland. He has had original works performed and commissioned by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, Southern Cross Soloists, UQ Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Youth Symphony, among others, and has garnered such awards as the 2013 Queensland Wagner Society National Composition Prize, 2014 Fanfare Artology prize and 2015 Percy Briar Award. As a performing musician John is principle trombone with the Queensland Youth Symphony and the UQ Symphony Orchestra as well as being a member of the UQ Chorale and the Brisbane Chamber Choir.

Richard Sanderson (b.1996) is a third-year Bachelor of Music student majoring in composition with Dr Robert Davidson. He has supported several community bands with arrangements and original compositions, including the Toowoomba Concert Band, Stanthorpe RSL Band, Capricornia Silver Band, Rockhampton Reclaimers Ensemble, and the Central Queensland String Orchestra. He has most recently been commissioned by the Queensland Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony for a piece to be premiered in 2017. Richard currently plays trombone in the UQ Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Youth Symphony, and the UQ Big Band. He is also a member of the Capricornia Silver Band and Toowoomba Concert Band.
