Event Description
- Full Description:
- China's development model, which is often focused on economic growth at the expense of environment and the wider social development, are increasingly drawing criticism both domestically and overseas. In recent years the Chinese government started to experiment on fostering 'ecological civilisation' in an effort to rebalance its development model to integrate environment into the equation. The lecture demonstrates that the city of Xiamen, in this regard, sets a good example of the interconnectedness of economic and ecological development in an urban setting, and how the Xiamen experience could enlighten the debate and discourse on urban development for China and other developing countries.
