Event Description

Full Description:
You’re invited to attend a presentation presented by world-renowned author and researcher, Professor Robert Maunder.

Topic: Insecurity in close relationships contributes to many adult health outcomes, from its impact on patient-provider relationships to healthcare utilisation, symptom expression and stress responses. The roots of security and insecurity in close relationships are developmental, so paediatric healthcare providers are often wellplaced to support a secure relational environment for children and for early detection of problems. Attachment theory may offer rich possibilities for improving both childhood and adult health.

Speaker: Bob Maunder is Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the
University of Toronto and Head of Research for the Department of Psychiatry at
Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. He is a member of the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto and serves on the editorial board of General Hospital Psychiatry. Dr. Maunder’s research has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Heart and Stroke Foundation (Ontario), the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada and the Collaborative Mental Healthcare Network of the Ontario College of Family Physicians. His research is focused on stress, resilience and the interpersonal determinants of health. He was the lead researcher and author on a series of papers documenting the impact of childhood adversity and of extraordinary workplace stress, from SARS to critical incidents, on healthcare workers.
