Aims of the CCRE Spine
|
The NHMRC Centre of Clinical Research Excellence in Spinal Pain, Injury and Health aims to improve 1. Conduct multidisciplinary research to advance understanding of spinal pain, injury and health, including:
≈ The physiology and pathophysiology of spinal pain;
≈ Predicting and preventing the transition from acute to chronic states;
≈ Rapidly assessing new treatment possibilities in pre-clinical studies; and
≈ Evaluating the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of innovative diagnostic and
therapeutic technologies and encouraging Australian commercialisation
opportunities for new discoveries.
2. Provide training to build the capacity of clinician researchers and trans-disciplinary clinical scientists to undertake
high quality research related to spinal pain, injury and health through: ≈ The creation of infrastructure to support training;
≈ The provision of funding to improve access to training; and
≈ The provision of a mentor network to enhance the quality of research and
experience of trainees
3. Facilitate the translation of research findings into clinical practice by:
≈ Disseminating new findings and information on evidence based practice to
patients, clinicians, peak bodies, insurers, government and the scientific and wider community; and
≈ Developing innovative approaches to embed new findings in usual practice.
4. Engage consumers and the broader community in the activities of the CCRE Spine to:
≈ Help shape the research agenda so that it reflects the priorities and perspectives of consumers; and
≈ Facilitate the uptake of research findings by consumers.
5. Achieve long term sustainability for the CCRE by:
≈ Securing funding from a range of sources;
≈ Lobbying to place spinal pain on the national and state health policy agendas,
using the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions National Health Priority Area as a platform; and
≈ Producing and publishing data and information that will influence and inform policy,
funding and resourcing decisions.
